Hi! I’m Jess!

For more than 10 years I’ve been working and volunteering in positions that are heavily focused on social justice and education. These roles require strong communication, administrative organization, creation of educational or training materials, and operational management. In addition to teaching Women’s Studies, Sociology and Popular Culture courses, my current work is predominantly that of educational and technology¬†support services, daily office operations, and special projects. Embodying Henry Jenkins’ concept of the¬†aca/fan (“a hybrid creature which is part fan and part academic”), I’ve spent the last 10 years participating in popular culture critiques, primarily analyzing gender and sexuality representations. I firmly believe that critical media literacy can make for a more engaged and productive society and critiquing representations through that media is a good place to start.
